Red River Technology Center
In mid-January I had the opportunity to travel to Duncan, Oklahoma and present to the faculty and staff of the Red River Technology Center. Located next to Cameron University on the south end of Duncan, this educational institution offers training programs in nursing, automotive, residential heating and air, cosmetology, electronics, computer aided drafting and design, pre-engineering, welding, carpentry, and business and information technology—just to name a few. They serve a wide variety of individuals from high school age to older adults. Some of their students are in the process of re-tooling after leaving a previous job. In a nutshell, teachers at this school interact with a wide variety of people at all different stages of life.
The training at RRTC was two-fold. First we learned about how to Educate about character in the classroom and in the school, Evaluate students for their character and competence, and Celebrate good character choices. Then we took a closer look at how the RRTC faculty and staff could reinforce good character in the workplace, not just the classroom.
Many interesting stories emerged, and participants came away with an action plan to help each of their students and colleagues develop principle-based decision-making skills and a culture of respect and honor.
I was also impressed by the caring, compassion, dedication, and excellence of the faculty, staff, and administration at RRTC. They are changing lives and developing future leaders—one individual at a time.blog comments powered by Disqus
