Read Across America - Part III

In this third and final blog in this series, we will look at books that encourage reading with parents and children. It is accepted that by reading to your child from birth, you not only encourage them to become readers themselves, but they learn to associate that special family reading time with love and security. Here is a list of a few of the books that we read as a family when my children were very young.

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other books by Eric Carle

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and other books by Bill Martin, Jr.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and other books by Dr. Seuss

Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne

The Berenstain Bear books by Stan and Jan Berenstain

Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and other books by Laura Joffe Numeroff

The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown

Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans

Curious George and other books by Hans Augusto and Margret Rey

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

Susanna of the Alamo by John Jakes

Harry the Dirty Dog and other books by Gene Zion

These are just a few of the books we read over and over again in our home. There are many more that provide a wonderful opportunity for you to spend meaningful time with your children.
